Accidental Jnr’s Room 2 series continues with an EP of fractured, melodic electronica from flywheel.

flywheel is an alias for London-based producer Finn Page, who explores varied processes to create kinetic, ebullient music with a natural lilt despite its explicitly electronic nature. Often found matching analogue synthesis with multi-track tape experimentation in a live setting, Page’s flywheel release for Accidental Jnr follows up the self-released Caustic EP and Hot Topics EP, released under his own name on Gimme A Break Records.

Cracked Plastic is marked out by intricate rhythmic interplay between percussive and melodic tones, but for all the off-centre sequencing there’s a strong pulse clocking the fragmented sounds to a groove. From the twitchy, uptempo chatter of ‘In Sparks’ to the weightless, rushing reverie of ‘Epoch Gub’ via more mellow soundscaping on ‘Fogged Up’, Page demonstrates maximum expression through his bold programming and production, creating a cascade of outwardly experimental, emotionally engaging polyrhythmic patterns.
